How To Use Your Android Phone as a wireless modem On PC and How to use the Wi-Fi Hotspot of Your Android Phone to browse on PC






Android O.S phones are one of the best smart phones in the world. In this tutorial, we will be showing you how you can browse using your Android phones as wireless modems and how you can also browse on your PC using Android phone as Wi-Fi and avoid the stress of connecting a modem or also save yourself from the stress of buying a modem.
The process of using your Android phone as a wireless modem is called Tethering. All you have to do is connect your Android phone to your computer using USB cord and use the GPRS OR 3G of your Android phone to surf the web.

Some Android phones, Especially the ones running on Android 2.2 O.S or above already have in built tethering but Android phones running on 2.1 O.S and below does not have.

Now lets get started, Go to Google Play store and download Pdanet app, and install it on your Android phone. Now on your PC download Pdanet + which is a companion program for the Pdanet app on your Android phone.  The program supports windows 8/7/Vista/XP for both 32/64bit .

Before you move on, adjust these settings : Go to settings, Select Applications, then select development and then check or thick the box that says USB Debugging and press OK. Reason for this is to allow the Pdanet app to stream or transfer data directly from your phone to your PC. Please remember to uncheck the USB Debugging option when you are not planning using your  Android phone as a modem.

Now plug your android phone into an open USB port of your PC. run the Pdanet app, and then select the enable USB tether option, the app will ask you to confirm that you havedownloaded and installed its brother Pdanet+ , click already installed and continue. When this is done, from your phone background you will notice that the app is up and running.

Now go to your PC, look for the Pdanet+ icon, right click on the icon and select connect from the pop up menu that will appear. When this is done, you will get a confirmation that you are connected to the internet and that the program is up and running. You are good to go and you can now surf the web.

Note : Using your phone as wireless modem takes a large chunk of your internet data so it will be adviceable for you to have unlimited browsing data before doing this.

Using your Android Wi-Fi Hotspot to browse

The first tutorial was how to use your Android phone as a wireless modem but in this second tutorial I will be showing you how to use your Android Wi-Fi Hotspot to browse on your PC and here, you do not have need for a modem.

Go to Settings on your phone and click on Wireless and Networks, click on Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot Settings, then click on Configure Wi-Fi Hotspot in other to have access to the settings of your Wi-Fi Hotspot.

You will see a page which shows Network ssid, Security, and then save and cancel.

Network ssid is the name other devices see when scanning for Wi-Fi networks, you can configure it by changing it to what you want.

Also configure the Security settings by clicking on the Security box and selecting WAP-2-PSK, when this is done, a Password dialogue box will be added to the list of options. There you can Enter A security password of your choice and it must be at least 8 characters.

Then you can save by clicking on the Save box.

With your bluetooth on, Any device or computer you want to use the Wi-Fi with would now see that your Wi-Fi connection is on.

Now locate the Internet connection icon on the Task bar of your computer, click on it , Locate the name you save as your Network ssid click on it and you will be asked for a Password, enter the same Pasoword you used as your Network ssid password and you are in.
