Android Terms and what they Stand for (Android Revolution)

Hey Friends, Today I will be teaching Android users some common android terminologies and their meanings.

Root - This refers to the process by which one gains access or control of the administrative commands as well as functions of an operating system.
It helps you by-pass administrative attributes to enable a 3rd party program which would not easily run on an android, to run effectively. It gives one, super user rights and elevated user privileges such as been able to load custom software on your device but if you ask me, i will say it's "hacking" your android device.

APK - This means Android Application file . It is the package file format used to distribute and install application software on android and other operating systems such as blackberry 10 devices with O.S version 10.2.1. To make an APK file, a program for android is first compiled and then all it's parts are packaged into one file and APK files are specifically in zip format.
Cupcake - This is android's second major release, but first commercially available android platform and policy copyrighted version. The name is a codename based on a dessert item "cupcake" and it comes with version identity 1.5 which was released in April 2009. It was introduced with great features and good amount of bug fixes and was introduced together with android's first touchscreen phone : the HTC magic.

Donut - It was launched in September 2009,this is the 2nd of the Confectionery naming of android O.S versions. It comes with version number 1.6 and was released after cupcake.It was introduced with text-to-speech technology alongside WVGA screen resolutions and better performance.

Eclair - This name represents another copyrighted policy version of android operating system. It's identity number ranges from 2.0-2.1.It was released in October 2009 and it was the update that android introduced live wallpapers(animated wallpapers) ,virtual keyboard for better and faster typing experience, Bluetooth 2.1 for easy file sharing and an improved Google map for easy navigation.

Froyo - This is the 4th version of the confectionery themed code for android copyrighted versions.got its name from frozen yoghurt, It's version number ranges from 2.2-2.2.3, was introduced in may 2010 along with USB tethering and portable WiFi hotspot.

Ginger bread - This is the 5th android policy version.It was introduced in Nov 2010 along with Google wallet and single letter copy and paste on android. It comes with a version identity whose number ranges from 2.3-2.3.7.

Honeycomb - It is the 6th android copyrighted policy version and comes with a corresponding number that ranges from 3.0-3.2.6.It was designed with tablets in mind.It came with better hardware acceleration and 3D graphic support.

Ice cream Sandwich - This name marked the beginning of a new and improved android policy version.It was first released in 0ct 2011 and updated in march 2012. When bbm was launched on android, it started working on devices with this policy operating system and those above it. It's identity number is 4.0. It came with a lot of features which include panorama camera view,voice input,video chat in GTalk,chrome for android and other great features.

Jellybean - This is the most used android version in the world today.It was introduced in june 2012 and came with more enhanced features for faster, smoother and more responsive android. it's identity number is 4.1.

Kitkat - It was launched in December 2013. it is the most recent copyrighted policy version. It is regarded as the future of the confectionery versions of android.It's identity number is 4.4, it makes touchscreens respond faster and more accurately and helps optimize your android memory.

Webkit - It is the core android platform  and it is the power of improved android browsers. It serves as the basis of android web browsers, it is an open source web browser engine.

G-Sensors - This is an Accelerometer. The letter "G" represents gravity so you can as well call the G sensor gravity accelerometer.  It helps render gravity directions to sensors as well as detect gravitational waves.

Active Sync - It is a service that connects Android devices direct to Microsoft mail servers. It is an integrated E-mail client that connects to virtual every E-mail server.
