After I changed the domain name, I discovered that my forum was scattered and had lots of errors so i carried out a very lengthy research, after which I was able to get my forum back to normal.
So today I will be sharing this tutorial to help you overcome a similar case easily just incase you want to change the domain name of your forum so you can easily get your forum back to it's good look.
How to Rectify Error Caused due to Change of Domain name on SMF
- First download repair_settings.php file from the tools section of the download page of your host's control panel
- Then on your control panel, click on file maneger
- Then upload the repair_settings.php file in your forum directory where you have ssi.php
- Run the file
- Then visit http://yourdomainname.com/repair_settings.php
- Use the recommended settings for all paths and URLs and save the settings.
Your forum would be back to normal. Then go back to your control panel and delete repair_settings.php to avoid hackers from hitting your forum easily and also for better look.
Then login to your forum, Click on Admin -> Themes and Layouts -> Themes and settings
Scroll down to the "Reset themes urls and directories" section, verify that the informations listed there are correct, then click on "Attempt to reset all themes", this will help fix the paths and URLs for the rest of your themes.
