The Revolution of 3D Printing : The Future of Tech

I call 3D printing technology, technology gone extra-ordinary. 3D printing is definitely the future as it has changed the face of manufacturing and made it easy in an unimaginable way. Though some people have heard about 3D printing but am not sure they know pretty well what it can be used for.

3D printing or additive manufacturing as it is called, according to Wikipedia is a process of making a three dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model.

The first working 3D printer was first created by chuck hull of 3D systems corporation in 1984. Initially 3D printers used to be very expensive to procure, they cost about $100,000 but now the have become less expensive, as low as $10,000 as the technology has improved tremendously in this 21st century.

3D printing can be used in printing objects you will never have imagined, Here items are printed in layers, one at a time. 3D printing has made manufacturing of objects take a different tune as now it can be used guns as proved from a recent research from defense distributed. Guns are designed and then the raw materials poured into the 3D printer which in turn builds and printed layer by layer, the manufacturing of gun cartridges are very easy with this process.

The main advantage of 3D printing is that it utilizes materials for production very well, unlike traditional manufacturing processes which uses a large amount of materials. In 3D printing, materials are placed in the 3D printer in a minimal amount desired to the printing to take place successfully.

In 2013, Chinese scientists at the Hnagzhou Dianzi University invented a 3D bio printer dubbed “Regenovo” which can print some human parts such as ear, livers, kidneys from living tissues. Regenovo developer, Xumingen claimed the printer could produce a mini liver sample or a five inch ear cartilage sample in under an hour.

3D printing has also made the production of wears very easy because some researchers has successfully been able to use 3D to print high tech bikini. So ladies can now easily get their bikini’s made of strong nylon materials for swimming and sun bathing printed from 3D printers and creators says it actually becomes more comfortable when it’s wet.

3D printed is also not as exception, Foodini is a 3D printer that let’s you print your food fresh. It automates some of the cooking preparation process, for instance, printing out individual ravioli instead of the Cook having to make the dough and fill and assemble each Individual piece themselves. It’s not replacing all the preparation required to make the meal but it’s likely going to speed up aspects of the food preparation(without necessarily sacrificing the freshness of the ingredients been used).

Also researchers at the university of Exeter brought up an idea of 3D printing of chocolates, which gives owners of the 3D printers liberty to print out their own chocolates at will. Other foods that can be printed with these printers are burgers, pizza, cakes etc.

European space agency has also been working on perfecting of metal parts which it expects to achieve in five years time. This technique is expected to be used in printing rocket parts .

The usefulness of 3D printing in modern day technology can not be over emphasized as it has been proven beyond doubt that it is definitely a technology for the future.
