Around two years ago, Samsung mobile had it's set of phones dominating the Nigerian mobile market but sometime towards the ending end of last year, Tecno mobile started dominating, when they started rolling in some set of nice and affordable smartphones into the Nigerian market.

The Chinese company which was known some years back for making down-market phones, took advantage of Google's Android OS and repositioned themselves by really working on some set of good and affordable smartphones, thereby giving both the elite and the common man, the chance to own an Android phone.

Smartphone users in Nigeria who has been frustrated by the seemingly over-priced devices from mega mobile phone makers like Samsung and Sony, now saw the Tecno moblie phones as an automatic alternative.

Although the position of Samsung devices cannot be over Emphasized in the Nigerian mobile market  as most Nigerians, especially the working class still go for their products, though expensive but they see it as top of it's class. The birth of Tecno Phantom A, A+ and A1 gave Tecno mobile a very huge boost in the Nigerian mobile market as these set of Smartphones are rich, up to standard and also affordable. These set of phones, received a very friendly welcome by Nigerian youths and also received a 4 star review by most Smartphone reviewers around Africa, making Tecno mobile a major player not only in Nigeria but in the whole of Africa.

After the huge success recorded by the Phantom A series, Tecno took advantage and started rolling in other Smartphones with very good specifications and features. Late last year, Tecno moblie started facing a stiff competition from Gionee who also provides good smartphones at an affordable price too. Though Gionee phones are not so cheap and affordable, but they are also not as expensive as Samsung and Sony mobile phones.

Both Tecno and Gionee phones have rich functions and are also affordable but Gionee started taking over the market when they made sleek and incredible smartphones like the Gionee s5.5Gionee Elife E6 and Gionee E7. The Introduction of these phones into the market, made the market very competitive even though Tecno maintained it's leadership in making of very affordable smartphones.

Around Mid 2014, Infinix Mobile who have had some affordable smartphones in the market decided to make the competition in the Nigerian mobile market stiffer when they announced the coming of Infinix Zero which had awesome features and would also be very affordable in the market. At first some Nigerians thought it was all noise, not until September 15th when the phone was released into the Nigerian market and Infinix was not only innovative and creative but also fulfilled their promise by not letting people down by making a function rich Smartphone very affordable even below Tecno phones that had same Specifications.

Infinix Zero have received a 4 out of 5 star review in a short while that it has been in the market from reviewers. The device is even been compared head-to-head with the ultimate Phantom Z from Tecno.

We would say this is a welcomed development as the entrance of Infinix into the mobile market has created a far healthier competition between Tecno. Gionee and Infinix.

  1. Hi Bob,
The Infinix brand are doing a great job, here at Oyigbo where I reside, the Infinix is out of track as almost ever person here uses and prefers Tecno devices, if I'm to measure in percentage Tecno has about 50% of android users, while the remaining 50% is being shared by Samsung and Infinix mostly, before getting the other brands like itel and so on.
The Infinix brand is really rocking the mobile market, and that is really a threat to Tecno.
Although personally, I don't like the Tecno brand, as they don't give me the quality of android device I need.

    1. Hi Larry, thanks for dropping by, yeah I know tecno still rules over the Android market in Nigeria but with the way infinix is going, Tecno might just be loosing alot of customers to them even though I know infinix has so much work to do in other to achieve that but the success, that infinix zero has recorded should actually give tecno a reason to worry if you ask me.

  2. No matter what Tecno builds as phone I never fancy it cos I don't just like them. I have never used tecno product before and don't think I will do so again. I love using samsung and the infix I uses performs excellently so I see no reason switching to tecno instead I will stick to Infinix more since they now make great feature reached smartphones at affordable rate. #TeamInfinix.
