Virtual Reality(VR) as the Electronics giants Samsung calls it, they said is almost as good as actual reality. Even though that might really be what they are saying but with two announcements already in it's 2014 developers conference, I will say Samsung is making a hard push for VR.
VR is developed in partnership with Oculus reality, the Gear VR connects to Samsung's Galaxy Note 4which according to Samsung, creates an entirely new category in the mobile world.
The Gear VR uses Samsung's Galaxy Note 4's 5.7-inch high-resolution screen for its VR capabilities, which demands that you actually snap the Smartphone into the headset. Which is all good, but once you upgrade your Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the Gear VR will look like just another expensive plastic that would no longer fit.
Samsung has partnered with some major companies in Software production and Entertainment to provide VR content. The list includes Dreamworks, Harmonix, Vevo, marvel and Cirque du Soleil, which will enable Gear VR users have access to Iron Man's Tony Stark's lab ahead of the 2015 blockbuster movie, Avengers : Age of ultron. Just maybe Samsung is trying to use this partnership to woo to the virtual side.
Samsung is also making available an Oculus mobile software development kit, that will allow developers create their own apps that will take advantage of the VR interface. But the limited availability of small market niche and hardware might mean that perchance, there won't be rampant development in that space for now.
In other to demonstrate the Company's commitment to VR, they gave a sneak peek at a second device called Project Beyond . It;s a disc that's about the size of a medium-sized plate that contains :16+1" HD cameras that can capture a 360-degree view of a location and stream it live to someone wearing a Gear VR or just store. Gizmodo's Sean Hollister, after trying it out at Samsung's conference, said the device is "abnormally grainy and a little bit awkward".
Samsung has not put any price tag yet for Gear VR Hence I guess we should just wait and see how it goes.
