I have been wondering why one of the best messenger apps in the world won't have it's own Website but I think Google has thought of that too and decided to roll out a dedicated website for hangout: hangouts.google.com.
The website has all the same features you have come to expect from the service, including voice and audio calls. The interface of hangout on Gmail is similar with that of the website, with the main difference been a large contact list and a randomly selected wallpaper.

Before now, the only official way to access Google Hangout was through Google services like Gmail, Google+ or through Google Chrome extension or app but now you can easily connect through the website whose features, links
to the mobile app.
I think this comes in handy as it will help you easily access your hangouts conversations with the risk of someone else overseeing your email or Google+ account. It also frees you of clutter of email if you are using it from Gmail and the clutter of social media if you are using it from Google+.
It is a very welcomed development and I know it will go a long way making conversations easy and free of distractions.
